Oil and Gas Data Management

Effective oil and gas data management facilitates desktop access to numerous up-to-date databases, including those related to surface and subsurface land, wells, pressure, production, pipelines, core, reserves, seismic and logs. The capturing, storing and accessing of valuable data regarding oil and gas is made easy by oil and gas data management tools. In the competitive and challenging field of oil and gas market, rigorous data management and analysis tools are very essential.

Oil and gas data management tools are designed for use by geologists, engineers, geophysicists, technologists, land personnel, managers, accounting staff, financial investors and other oil and gas professionals. One of the key requirements for oil and gas data management is to have a well defined management strategy. The management techniques involve storing data, information and knowledge such as prospect evaluations, reservoir and earth studies etc. The required data can at any time be accessed by a user by typing in a key word or phrase. Storing data and accessing it has become much easier, compared to the earlier printed format.

Oil and gas companies employ modern sophisticated tools to optimize data management ? project consulting is one of the tools. These companies seek the help of outsourced firms for project management and also in optimizing organizational effectiveness, drilling, reservoir productivity, geophysical and geological technologies, and information technology. Prominent companies rely heavily on service companies and other vendors to develop and maintain advanced technologies for easy managing of data.

Google Chrome Keeps Crashing - How to Fix It

There are many reasons for Google Chrome crashing. One of the reasons could be an old version of Internet Download Manager. To resolve the crash due to this reason, update to IDM v6.03 beta, or disable the 'Advanced browser integration' option within IDM by going to go to Options and then General.

If your Google Chrome is crashing when trying to print on an Asus EeePC with an out-dated version of Asus WebStorage, you can solve this by downloading the latest version of ebStorage.

Another common cause for the crash is the incompatibility of Google Chrome with much software, to solve this, current approach is to try and disable the software or try getting an updated and latest version of it to see if this resolves the issue. Different software which have been identified so far being incompatible to Google Chrome are out-dated versions of iS3 anti-spyware (STOPzilla), NVIDIA Network Access Manager, NVIDIA nTune,NOD32 version 2.7, Hide My IP, Venturi Firewall, out-dated versions of WinMount and PPLive. There have been incompatibility issues causing crashes reported with NVIDIA Desktop Explorer caused by the nvshell.dll library. You can try to resolve this by removing nvshell.dll.

Google Chrome Keeps Crashing - How to Fix It

Another common cause for the crash is the user profile of your browser being corrupted. You can fix this problem by creating a new user profile to replace the corrupt one by following the steps below.

Completely exit from Google Chrome Go to the Start menu > Run. Type in either of the following directories in the text field and press OK. Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data Windows 7 or Windows Vista: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data Rename the folder called "Default" in the directory window to "Backup default."

Open the Google Chrome again which will create a new "Default" folder automatically, which should resolve the problem.

f. Remote Access Connection Manager
g. Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
h. Telephony
5. Mark the above services as checked.
6. Click Apply | OK.
7. Restart the computer for the changes to take effects.

Highly Recommended

Above solutions are based on the state of the dependent services. The Error 1068 in Windows 7 may still occur if your registry is not properly configured. To fix the problems in your registry and thereby solve the problem, you need to use a third-party registry cleaning software.

How to Fix Corrupt Files Or Corrupted Data

If you could not open a file or send it to the Recycle Bin, there is the possibility that it is corrupted. There are many things that can cause a file to be corrupted; it could be the result of software failure, a virus infection, or a system crash. If you have just downloaded the file and it will not open or run, it could be that it was corrupted during the download. If the data transfer rate is too slow during download, there is a great possibility that the file will be flawed and would not open. Defects in the file system of the hard disk  or in the disk itself can also cause files to be corrupted. Corrupt files can cause you headaches but the good thing is that the probability of saving or fixing a corrupted file is quite high.

Because there are many things that can cause files to become defective, there are also many ways that can lead to the solution of a corrupt file problem that you can. You can restore corrupt or lost files from recent backup. Numerous programs automatically produce back up files; one good example is Microsoft Word, a widely used word processing program. It automatically backs up .doc files with .wbk files. If you somehow find that your Word document file is corrupted, try looking for the file in the same folder that has the extension .wbk and change it to .doc. You will then be able to open it using MS Word.

You can also use the System Restore tool if the problem is caused by accidental disk format or bad installation. Windows XP allows for the rollback of system files to previous states when the system was working properly. If your system fails to work normally after installing or uninstalling a software or an update, you can simply rollback to previous working states of your system.

How to Fix Corrupt Files Or Corrupted Data

If you want to fix lost or corrupted top-level folders that contain different kinds of file types, it would be best to use HDD Regenerator or Partition Recovery. If you are not really sure about the kinds of files in the folder to be fixed, you can make use of FAT Recovery or NTFS Recovery. You can also use some file recovery tools like Recover My Files (for recovering lost data), DOC Regenerator for fixing or rescuing Microsoft Word documents, XLS Regenerator (for fixing Microsoft Excel files). For partially downloaded .AVI files you may use DivFix. If the file that needs to be fixed is .ASF file, you can use AsfBin and AsfBinGUI, a free but powerful command line utility that can cut, join, and repair fragments of .asf files. There are hundreds of software out there that can recover or fix different kinds of files. Just Google terms like "Fix broken files" or "fix corrupt files" or any term that you think can lead you to the right software.

If all else fails to fix or recover your file, you have no choice but to pay for the services of people who are expert in data recovery. But before you do it, be sure to try all the solutions mentioned above.

How Data Is Stored On A Hard Drive

When a file is saved on a computer, the data is stored on the hard disk platter's magnetic coating. This magnetic coating on the platters is the 'glue' that keeps your data. Any damage to that magnetic coating means that there is data loss as each piece of missing coating contains data. So a platter missing a little bit of that coating has a better chance of a successful data recovery as opposed to a platter that has had massive amounts of that magnetic coating removed or destroyed.

Hard Drive Failure Parts

Typical hard disk components that fail include:

How Data Is Stored On A Hard Drive

Platters Hard disk platters, or spindle, is rotated by an electric motor. The speed of this rotation is measured in rotations per minute (RPM) and the higher the performance of the hard drive...the higher the RPM is which increases the reading and writing of data to the platters. Any surface contact to the platters can cause serious damage to the magnetic strip the contains the data. This includes dust, finger prints, water, and most important of all, the heads of the hard drive. Platter damage is the most serious type of damage to cause hard drive failure.

Heads (Head Crash) When the hard disk is not actively in use, the heads are parked until the hard drive needs to read or write data again. It is when this head moves outside the super thin cushion of air between platters that causes the head to crash and touches the hard disk platter.

Firmware Firmware is the program instructions located on the chips on the Printed Circuit Board (PCB). Each firmware revision is specific to its hard drive type and each hard drive can go through dozens of firmware revisions to increase that particular manufacturer's disk drive's performance. The older the hard drive, the more difficult it could be to find a working firmware for that specific hard disk model.

Printed Circuit Board (PCB) The PCB of the hard drive is the electronics of the hard disk that manages and operates the hard drive. If a PCB becomes damaged it is often replaced with an identical PCB with the same firmware on the original hard drive. Typically PCB damage is from water or fire, but there are other reasons why a PCB would fail. And many times a failed PCB affect other aspects like firmware or heads.

Types of Hard Drive Failure

Generally speaking, when a disk drive fails it is due to one of the following causes:

Media Failure Otherwise known as a head crash (as described above), the heads of the hard drive have physically touched and damaged the magnetic coating on the platters.

Mechanical Failure Generally speaking, any electronic failure to the hard drive falls in this category. Fire, water, electrical damage to the hard disk would require 'parts' replacement.

PCB Failure As described above, PCB failure falls in the mechanical failure type and typically can be 'swapped out' for an identical PCB for that specific hard drive type. Along with the correct firmware for that disk drive, a PCB replacement can be a difficult type of hard drive repair if the hard drive is an older model.

Logical Drive Failure This type of hard drive failure is usually the least damaging to the data. This type of error usually means that the operating system of the computer (or utilities) can see the drive, has marked it as unallocated space, but because the computer's MFT is corrupted or damaged, can't read the data. Hard drive failure of this type is not that destructive and the chances of a complete successful data recovery are high.

Types of Non-Mechanical Hard Drive Failure

Other causes for data loss and why data recovery would be required could include the following:

Natural Disasters Extreme weather conditions that are out of our control can make a bad day even worse. Whether the computer was submerged in water due to a flood, scorched by fire or in the proximity of a lightning strike, there is still a chance to recover data from the hard drive.

The Human Factor Accidentally deleting files, formatting the wrong hard drive, and attempting to upgrade you operating system only to have it fail are common issues that come up. Also, as careful as most people are with their laptops, a small drop from the couch to the floor or down a flight of stairs, is the type of forceful jarring to the disk drive that could cause serious damage to the hard drive platters.

Viruses E-mail typically are the way most viruses are spread from computer to computer. Also, visiting questionable websites that have scripts, malware or spyware waiting to comprise your system and put your data at risk. It is recommended to run the most recent anti-virus software to protect your data from this sort of data loss and to reduce the need to require data recovery service.

So how do you protect yourself from losing your data? Back it up! However, should you still require data recovery services, be sure to use a company that specializes in hard drive data recovery.

'SMART - Status Bad - Backup and Replace' Hard Disk Error and Recovery

Physical hard disk failure refers to the condition in which data stored in the system becomes inaccessible due to hard disk malfunction. A hard disk is comprised of several mechanical and electronic components. But when these components get affected due to external factors like high intensity magnetic waves, sharp impact, temperature, water or fire, they get physically failed. Also, internal issues like wear and tear, low material quality and poor composition cause hard drive failure. In such cases, Hard Disk Recovery service can come to rescue and recover all lost data.

Hard drive failure is not instant in some cases. The modern hard drives come with an advanced technology known as S.M.A.R.T. (Self Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology). It is a proactive warning system that monitors the hard drive health on the basis of certain parameters and generates reports and warning messages on finding any fault. These parameters are sometimes denoted as hard disk reliability factors, such as temperature, excessive bad sectors etc. So, if a hard drive is anticipated to fail, SMART gives error message as:

"Pri master hard disk: S.M.A.R.T. Status Bad, backup and replace"

'SMART - Status Bad - Backup and Replace' Hard Disk Error and Recovery

Explanation

By master hard disk, error refers to the one, which is being primarily used by computer system to store data. The above warning suggests that users are required to immediately backup all data and replace the failing hard drive with a new one. Hard drives may go bad due to mechanical component failure, electronic faults or firmware corruption.

But in most of the cases related to physical failure, users may need to opt for Data Recovery service to recover their lost files. It can occur due to two basic reasons:

o Backup failure
o Ignoring the S.M.A.R.T error message

Hard Disk Recovery Service

It is a specialized component level service provided by recovery experts to recover data from physically failed hard drives. The processes involved in Hard Disk Recovery start with detailed analysis of the failed hard drive and chalk out suitable recovery procedures accordingly. A physically failed hard drive gets dismantled in sterile lab environments of Clean Rooms and technical procedures like repairing or replacing disk internals, disk cloning, shifting the platters etc. are applied. Data Recovery service experts can recover data in all cases of failures including those which S.M.A.R.T. can't detect.

Stellar Information Systems Limited offers industry's leading Hard Disk Recovery service through Class-100 Clean Rooms. We have been providing recovery service from more than 16 years. The advanced recovery service is provided for almost all makes and models of hard drives as SCSI, SATA, EIDE and IDE including server hard drives and SSDs (Solid State Drives).

How to Fix Hard Drive Read Errors and Data Loss Problems

If your Windows operating system is installed on primary hard drive partition, which is formatted using NTFS file system and you reformat the same partition during setup for clean installation, the partition is automatically formatted as FAT. It copies files from boot disk and then tries to restart your system in GUI mode to proceed with the installation.

However, the installation process fails and your system becomes completely inaccessible. You can not log into your system and gain access of your hdd data. This behavior leads to significant data loss, if there is no backup in place. At this point, you need to go for hard drive recovery to get your valuable data recovered.

In a practical scenario of this problem, the installation process fails and your system stops responding. Furthermore, you come across the below error message:

How to Fix Hard Drive Read Errors and Data Loss Problems

"DISK READ ERROR OCCURRED."

To fix this behavior, if you boot your system using MS-DOS disk and then run disk repair utility, you come across further error message stating:

"The media descriptor byte is invalid.
FAT copies are not the same.
Many crosslinked files.
All directory entries were invalid."

The partition repair and hdd data recovery process fails. Corruption remains intact and it does not even allow you to resume the installation process.

Cause

Microsoft Windows always formats the primary partition using FAT file system, and then it converts to NTFS. When you select to format system or boot partition using NTFS file system, Setup inadvertently writes 16 sector NTFS boot area on newly formatted FAT file system partition after file copy process completes. The problem may also occur if the partition is either damaged or corrupted.

Resolution

To sort out this behavior and recover hard drive data, go through any of the below steps:

During Setup process, remove primary NTFS partition and then re-create partition to format it as NTFS.

Install Windows operating system on FAT file system and then convert the FAT file system to NTFS.

If the above methods doesn't work, format the drive and reinstall operating system. However, this process removes all your valuable data from the HDD and requires hard drive recovery software to retrieve data. The applications are capable of easily, quickly, and safely recovering your valuable data in all data loss situations.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery software recovers lost data from all types of hd drives, including IDE, EIDE, SATA, SCSI, and eSATA. The software is designed for Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, 2003, XP, and 2000. It salvages lost Windows data from NTFS5, NTFS, FAT32, VFAT, FAT16, and FAT12 file system partitions.
